The Genshin Impact developer is going to add the new diving mechanism in Fontaine. This addition may be available since update 4.0 which is expected to make the game more exciting. Let's take a quick preview of this new mechanism.

New Diving Mechanism

When traveling to Fontaine, the Traveler will experience a new mechanism - diving. The current swimming mechanism lets Genshin Impact playable characters move through water bodies with heads above the water.

Diving Mechanics
You can dive and breathe in the water when Fontaine is released.

But the new diving mechanism lets your character dive into the underwater world and move up and down, left and right. Especially, the game will add a separate stamina bar for diving. When your characters run out of diving stamina, your characters will not die. They only have to stay still and wait for the bar refilled.

Functional Buttons For Diving

When you swim or sail a boat in Genshin Impact, you use a unique set of functional buttons. There is also a sprinting button to let you move faster underwater when you dive. On the PC, click the right mouse to activate it. Here are other control buttons for diving when you play Genshin Impact on PC.

  • Control: increase the depth of diving;
  • Space: decrease the depth of diving;
  • Left mouse (click or hold): attack enemies in the water.
Functional Buttons
There will be unique functional buttons for diving like moving and combat buttons on the ground.

You can perform long-range attacks which automatically lock down the target underwater. It's similar to the mechanism of using a bow and catalyst on the ground. You also hold to aim and unleash powerful attacks to hit and damage enemies.

The diving skill is not exclusive to the Traveler. Playable characters in Fontaine may have this skill to combat underwater. However, they cannot use their normal attack, elemental skill, and elemental burst like on the ground. It only features exclusive skills for underwater combat.

Kokomi Burst
Your character cannot perform their normal attack, elemental skill, and burst underwater.

Therefore, playable characters have to use available skills for underwater combat when they dive into the water. So, don't be curious about how Kokoki's elemental burst looks underwater. Moreover, it seems that you can only dive into water bodies in Fontaine - the nation ruled by the Hydro Archon.
